Privacy policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
TurfLab is an independent project. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers this website and the services that will be added to it.
What we collect
Today, the public site collects very little:
- Contact messages. If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you include in the message.
- Basic server logs. Our hosting provider records requests, including IP address, user agent, and timestamps, for security and reliability.
- Essential cookies. None are used for tracking today. When accounts launch, a session cookie will keep you signed in.
What we will collect when features launch
- Lawn profile data you enter, such as ZIP code, lawn size, grass type, sun exposure, soil, and goals.
- Treatment history and photos you choose to save.
- Account data such as your email address and authentication records.
- Purchase records if you buy a paid plan or download.
- Product analytics only with consent, used to understand which features work and where people get stuck.
We do not need your exact street address. Location-based features use ZIP code or a city-level location, not a precise home address.
How we use it
- To provide the plan, tools, and account features you ask for.
- To respond to messages and fix problems.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- To improve content and features, using aggregated or consented data.
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not send marketing email without consent.
Service providers
We use service providers for hosting, authentication, database, payments, email, and analytics. Depending on which features are active, these may include Vercel, Supabase, Stripe, Resend, and PostHog. They process data on our instructions and under their own terms.
Retention
Contact messages are kept while needed to resolve the issue. Account and lawn data are kept while your account is active, then deleted or anonymised on request, subject to records we must keep for tax or legal reasons. Server logs are retained for a short security window.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of your data, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion of your account and associated lawn data. Email support@turflab.org. We may need to verify that the request is yours. You can also opt out of analytics where consent is used.
Children
TurfLab is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and its date. If you have an account, we will make the change reasonably visible before it takes effect.
